South Staffs Open & Training Preview

Tony Hotchkiss - 10th March 2009

What better way to start the season than a trip to South Staffs. Just off exit 12 of the M6 along the A5 towards Cannock, it is easy to find, easy to get to and has a great atmosphere and a great fleet of Larks!

This year we are holding two one day events!

On Saturday 28th March there is training for all those wanting to get the best from their boat. Starting promptly at 11.00am this will cover general rig details along with specific features of your choice. There will be some "on the water" exercises, before a debrief and light lunch. At 2.00pm there is a club race with a separate Lark start, to enable you to put into practise all you have learned! The coaches will be watching and filming whilst you are racing so that during the tea-break performances can be analysed before some further practise.

Please inform me by 25th March that you intend to attend so that we cater for the right numbers as there will be a moderate charge of 10 per boat (2 people) to include lunch.

After sailing the South Staffs entertainment swings into action with food, music and the usual Lark style entertainment for the evening. Again numbers would be very useful, so please let me know if you intend to be there.

As many will know we have large grassy areas for camping or camper vans for the less hardy!

Then on Sunday 29th March the Open Meeting starts at 11.00 with a briefing at 10.30. There will be 3 races with 2 to count, all for 10 including tea/coffee and afternoon cakes. Weather permitting we will run the morning race followed by lunch and then 2 races back to back.

So get the boat ready, remind the crew/helm to be ready and e-mail me to confirm the Saturday training and evening entertainment. We look forward to seeing you and having a great weekend.
