It was back to Northampton SC for the Larks winters, which this year saw the fleet joining up with the Enterprises and Scorpions. This made for a great show of c 50+ boats.
Saturday's three race programme saw the first race won by Stuart and Nick Hydon who opened up a substantial lead which grew during the race. They also managed to finish 6th Scorpion despite starting 3 minutes behind them. Harry Pynn and Gemma Cook took second ahead of Neil and Sue Firth who were demonstrating fantastic speed in these shifty conditions.
Race 2 began with Pynn and Cook leading the first lap. James Goss/ Emma Mackley and Chis and Nic White kept the pressure on Pynn/Cook which resulted in the Hydon's taking a flyer up the second beat landing them first place. The last race of the day saw Dan Watson crewed by Katie Ward lead with other chasing hard. Eventually Chris and Nic White managed to strike out a lead although they were pipped for first position by Goss/Mackley right on the line.
Sunday saw a change in conditions with the wind blowing F4-F5 and shifting! Race 4 was decided on the final beat with Adam Parry/Ruth Johnson having rounded third at the last mark, tack off early for the line. With a favourable gradual lift and straight legging they managed to pip the Hydons to the line. Chris and Nic White finished third.
Race 5 had Watson/Ward take the lead. At the second mark the wind was really gusting. With kites flying Hydon managed once again to claim an overlap. At the gybe Watson/Ward fell into windward leaving Hydon scrambling to drop the kite as they were overpowered. Hydon held the lead from Chris and Nic White.
The final race saw Parry/Johnson finish ahead of Chris and Nic.
Special thanks go to Northampton SC for hosting the event and in particular Carol Ford from the Enterprise Fleet for organising such a great event.
