15 boats including 4 visitors braved the weekend's forecast of storms for the rearranged South Staffs Lark Class GJW Direct Belle Isle.
In the first race John Billington with Ross "I don't crew" Kearney got away and despite some snakes and ladders were never caughht. Charlie Roome and Connie Hicklin came through to second, with Ed Bradburn and Lucy Evans taking third.
The fleet then retired for some good local lunch, before two back to back races in the afternoon.
After some moving of the "magic knot", Bradburn and Evans took race two, with Billington and Kearney taking second despite a small swim from Mr Billington up the final beat. Roome and Hicklin recovered from their synchronised capsize at the windward mark with Tim Vick and Becks Marks to take third.
So with the wind building before the storm and three boats in with a chance of winning, it was all set for the final race.
The breeze flattered to deceive and the final race proved the lightest - Vick and Marks won the start and sailed away to leave the pretenders to fight it out. Bradburn and Evans won this challenge to take second in the race and win the open. Billington and Kearney took second, with Vick's win meaning he was 1st visitor in third, just ahead of Roome and Hicklin.
Thanks to South Staffs for being great hosts - roll on the Winter Champs on 16/17th November...
