A chilly north breeze greeted the 10 Larks who came to the line for race 4 on Sunday 16th Feb. A confused start saw two boats over and several out of position at the gun. Simon Cox went back to restart. Nigel Hufton didn't and it would cost him later. At the first mark Nick Hurst & Sam Booth led from Nigel & Chris. These positions remained for the first lap with Mark incurring penalty turns for an over ambitious move at the windward mark.
Nigel eventually passed Nick on lap two, but wasn't allowed to get too far ahead. Meanwhile Chris Ellis / Ed Smith caught Nick / Sam and briefly took 2nd. Close racing was taking place all through the fleet, with Bob / Robyn Larder chasing Phil / Lynda Whitney hard for a while.
The fleet endured a brief squall which brought more wind, but rain with it. Having re-taken 2nd, Nick / Sam held on to take the gun which Nigel's OCS denied him. Chris / Ed were solid in 2nd and lead the series. Mark took 3rd, having repelled a charge from Simon.
This is the most open series I have known, with three different winners of the four races so far, and any one of these still able to win overall.
