Lark Nationals 2010 - Day 5
The Brookbank Sailing Lark Nationals continue with light WNW winds. This morning the fleet were still laughing and discussing last night’s entertainment – ‘Larks got Talent’ – and what talent the fleet can boast! Anyone who missed Steve Chatten setting a record for hanging CD’s off his nipples missed a treat. The winner of the Duckham’s went to Karen Jewkes who showed gross underachievement by breaking her arm and putting herself out of sailing for a while.
After an hours postponement waiting for the wind to settle the fleet set off on a trapezoid course with a line start. Those hoping for good winds on the right were disappointed as it went light, and the rest of the fleet piled in from the left with James Stewart and Katrina Gilbert showing the way. On the second lap Steve and Nicola Cumley pulled up on the leaders along with Silver Fleeter – Chris White and Lucy Evans and Nigel Scott and Harri Condie. By the final beat it paid to sniggle left which allowed Ross Kearney and Ally Dart to pull up to 5th with Stuart Hydon and Tim Linsell sailing through to 4th. James Stewart took his first bullet of the week, with Harry Pynn and MJ Gifford 2nd and the Cumley’s 3rd. 1st Bronze fleeters with a 15th were Will Kennedy and Rhos Hawes.
The wind by now had picked up to a F4 with big shifts and backers which caught out this morning’s winners James and Katrina. Chris Fish and Beth Condie led from the windward mark with Nick and Jo Marlow rounding second closely followed by Matt and Emma White. Chris and Beth then led to the finish. 2nd was Alan Krailing and Edd McArdle, 3rd went to Nigel Hufton and Andy Douglas. The first Silver Fleet crew was Will Croxford and Chris Warburton with Bronze again going to the fast pairing of Will Kennedy and Rhos Hawes.
