Rooster Lark Nationals Final Day Update
The final day of the Rooster Lark National Championships provided significantly lighter conditions than the previous two days. The residual swell had turned in to a difficult chop causing some of the hardest sailing conditions experienced at a Lark Nationals.
The race was on between Steve Cumley & Eluned Jones and Steve Dunn & Toby Lewis. Steve & Eluned signalled their intentions early with some serious pre-start manouvering. Both boats were mid fleet at the first mark and were seen in a titanic luffing match at the first mark.
At the front of the fleet Alan Krailing & Ed McArdle finally rekindled their 2006 Nationals winning form to take a well deserved race win. Matt White & Harriet Steer took second place to further enhance their top 10 position. The two championship leaders posted discards.
Steve & Toby had a huge challenge on their hands to steal back the lead. Once again a pre-start dual commenced and both boats were mid fleet at the first mark.
Suprise leaders at the first mark were Justin Jones & Lucy Evans followed by Jon Lewis & Tessa Nicholls. Jon & Tessa eventually overtook Justin & Lucy to take the race win with an ecstatic Justin & Lucy in second at their first Lark Nationals. In fact Justin loves the class so much he's going to buy his own boat!
Every year the depth of talent in the Lark Fleet increases and this was no more evident than 2007 where a number of pre-championship favourites struggled to hit their form. At the end Steve & Eluned had done more than enough to win the 2007 Rooster Lark Nationals by a winning margin of 4.75 points. Commisserations to Steve Dunn & Tobytastic Lewis who we hope will come back to challenge again next year.
To round off the weeks socials Dan Watson was awarded the Duckhams for a minor mistake in the bedroom!
Finally, the Lark Class would like to thank Looe Sailing Club and it's members for hosting this memorable championships and also our event sponsors Rooster along with Pedrollo, Speed Sails and Pinnell & Bax who provide the excellent prizes.
