West Kirby SC hosted the Annual Lark Open meeting in glorious sunshine over the weekend 10/11 June. 2 races were sailed on the Saturday in perfect conditions, without a cloud in the sky, and a building force 4/5. For many, the heat was too much, so frequent visits to the centreboard were necessary to cool off. Steve Cumley & Eluned Jones came ashore the happiest after winning both races, but notable performances were made by Tim Lawrence and Christine Elles-Tonner, with a clear second in the first race and Simon Cox & Matt Sheppard who threw away a race victory in the second race, after spectacularly chucking it in at the last gybe.
A whole afternoon of drinking in the sun, and England winning their opening World cup game contributed to some very sore heads on Sunday morning (and almost broken metatarsals - thanks Joanna! ;o) ). The fleet launched into a much lighter breeze with the gradient breeze battling the sea breeze. The race officer was still able to provide two excellent races before the wind died completely, and the competitors were towed in. Steve and Eluned made it a clean sheet by winning both races. Dave Young & Anna Hotchkiss showed their light wind prowess by having a very strong day to move up to second overall and Steve Chatten sailing with Laura Mitchell found the go button to storm up the leader board to 6th overall.
The Lark class would like to thank West Kirby SC for organising a very professional event that was fantastic fun for all.
