Spinnaker pole mounting

I understand that a second, higher pole mounting can be fitted on the mast. As a newcomer to Larks and indeed spinnaker boats, could anyone explain to me, the need for this and when it might be utilised. Many thanks.

It allows the pole to be set horizontally rather than at an angle and hence will project the tack slightly further out. It's a crude adaption of the system on some yachts where the inboard end of the pole goes on a slide on a track and is therefore infinately variable.

Ignore it. No-one uses it, use an adjustable uphaul/downhaul instead.
