Main halyard length

The rope tail on my main halyard is frayed to the point it's not far off giving up.

I've had a quote for £25 to replace it but the chandlers need to know the length (top to tail) of the wire halyard itself. Does anyone know the exact length of the wire for a MkII Parker?

Iain,

There is no standard as the masts are often rigged differently. The exit comes out in a different place.

Most of the top boats are using dyneema such as Marlows D12 3mm for their main halyards which is a bit cheaper and lighter. It is also possible to splice and change the length your self. Off the top of my head 7.5m should do the job for a dyneema halyard.

A Lark mast is 21ft in old money so 7m is plenty for a tail.

If you're just replacing the rope tail with 3 strand prestretched (cost about 70p a metre) then why not do it yourself. You need to be able to do an eye splice but they are fairly easy with a bit of practice there are plenty of videos on you tube (including a not very good one by me) of how to do one.

You should then be able to save yourself £15 - £20 to spend on beer.
